“He’s turned against me, Eddy! He’s turned away from me!” Jojo sobbed as he pulled the weeds by the gravestone in anguish with his hands.

Eddy could feel his friend’s pain. In a little less than a year Jojo had lost his entire family. First it was his wife who passed away through a fatal accident. And there they were a few months afterwards burying his only son who died from brain tumor.

Eddy couldn’t find words to console his friend. He was going through pain and grief. Jojo had barely recovered from the demise of his beloved wife when his 6 year old son also suddenly took ill. For many days when his son was on admission at the hospital, he prayed fervently that his son would be healed.  Little did he know that he was going to lose his son that soon. But there he was now, laying him to rest. Jojo felt his faith in God shaken. He felt disappointed in Him. He felt like the Lord hadn’t been there for him.

“I don’t know what I did! The only thing I did Eddy was to trust Him as God wholeheartedly! The only thing that I’ve ever done is to love him and serve him! Yet He’s crushed me! He’s taken every essence of being alive away from me! He’s taken away my joy! I don’t know why God would give me the bread of sorrow and fill my mouth with bitterness and anguish!” Jojo lamented.

“Jojo!” Eddy called his name sympathetically as he patted him on his back. “Jojo, He hasn’t left you! He hasn’t turned against you! I understand your pain! But I know He does more! I know he’s near Jojo!”

**********

And yes indeed, he is with us! Through the storm he is with us!

Sometimes we don’t understand why certain things happen to us! Sometimes we don’t understand why we have Jesus, yet we go through challenges and storms! Sometimes the more you’d want to lift up your eyes to the heavens, the heavier the dark clouds form above your head and the more violent the storm becomes. Sometimes, like the disciples, we have the Lord with us, yet the stormy waves roar angrily at us!

Sometimes you can’t feel Him! The more you pray, the more the situation gets worse! You scream out, “Lord where are you?” “Don’t you care?” You lose hope! You lose faith! You wonder where your God is!

Hush!

Failing marriage… Failing health… Broken homes… Failing relationships… Hurts… Disappointments!

Hush!

Have faith! He is near! And the storm is soon going to die down!

Mark 4:39-41

“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Hush! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm! He said to His disciples, Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
